I took delivery yesterday on a used 4500 (1330 hrs) with a 460 loader. When I started woking with it, I noticed the boom and bucket hydraulics are real slow. I also noticed these things as well: When the boom is raised, it seems to jerk slightly (more so when cold), The bucket movement is slow. When the boom raise function is "feathered" in the up position, the boom actually goes down until it is fully actuated. It also appears that when throttle is increased, the functions are actually slower. I checked the hydraulic fluid level and it is OK. The hydraulic filter appears to be the original. Could this be the problem? Any advice would be appreciated. This is my first tractor and I am feeling a little discouraged with the tractor at this point.
Thanks
MIKE

That and the fluid would be the first to do or to know when it was last changed. ....

With that many hours on what appears to be the original filters; I would change the filters and the oil. I would expect to see a vast improvement in the performance of the hydraulics. Also pull and inpsect the suction screen for debry and trash. This could also cause a problem if enough has accumulated and restricted the flow through the suction screen. Good luck! ....

I had a similar problem with my fel on my 419 loader ended up to be a bad male hydraulic coupler and a bad female coupler on the loader hydraulic hoses related to the circuit in question. ....

Chief's diagnosis was correct. I sent the tractor back to the dealer and they changed oil, hyd filter and found the screen was clogged. Used it last night and it works great. Thanks for the advice Chief!! ....

maugus63, great news! Glad the dealer was able to get back up and running and do it on the cheap. If you haven't done so already, this could be a good indication that all of the filters and fluids in this machine have never been changed or probably should be changed. If nothing else, it will start you off on a solid and known maintenance base line. Not to mention peace of mind knowing you have got your maintenace program started off right and have a good idea with respect to what is going on inside your new machine. ....
